Typical plutons such as the Baingoin granite, the Xungmai granite, the Yangbajain granite, the Jaggang granodiorite, the Lhasa granit and the Quxu granodiorite are sampled and analyzed for thermal-chronological dating of tectonic events and uplift process of the central Tibetan Plateau. Four periods of regional tectonic-thermal events in 121 -116 Ma, 93 - 45 Ma, 25-15 Ma and 8-6. 5 Ma are identified, corresponding to plu-tonism of the Bangong-Nujiang suture zone, plutonism and uplifting of the Yarlung Zangbo suture zone, thrusting and uplifting of Gangdise tectonic belt and extensional faulting of the middle Lhasa Block respectively. The erosional surface and planation tops of mountains mainly formed in 40-25 Ma and 15 - 8 Ma. The central Tibetan Plateau uplifted in 25 - 8 Ma as a whole and began extensional breaking in 8-6. 5 Ma.
