Abstract:Here we report early Cambrian small shelly fossils from the basal Yurtus Formation of various sections (Linkuanggou, Shiairike, Aksu, Penglaiba, Jinlin and Yurtus sections) of Aksu area, Xinjiang. The fossils include: Protohertzina anbarica, Protohertzina unguliformis, Anabarites trisulcatus, Anabarites ternarius, Cambrotubulus decurvatus, Olivooides sp. , Kaiyangites novilis and sponge spicules. A new small shelly fossil zone is proposed herein based on the discovery, i.e. , the Anabarites trisulcatus- Protohertzina unguliformis assemblage zone. Its lower boundary is defined by the first appearance datum of Anabarite trisulcatus, Protohertzina unguliformis, Protohertzina anbarica and Kaiyangites novilis, and the upper boundary defined by their last appearance datum. According to the correlation, the lower Yurtus Formation is considered a deposition of the early Fortunian of Cambrian.
