Abstract:Huang Jiqing (1904~1995), a renowned geologist and member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, played a pivotal role as one of the pioneers and founders of modern geology in China. He made outstanding contributions to the development of Chinas regional geological survey and the exploration of petroleum and natural gas resources. Huang Jiqing began his investigations and research in petroleum geology as early as the 1930s. In the 1950s, he actively participated in the planning, deployment, and field guidance of nationwide surveys on petroleum and natural gas, ultimately making remarkable contributions to the discovery of the Daqing oilfield. Based on Huang Jiqings memoirs, genealogy, and archives from the Ministry of Natural Resources of China, this paper systematically organizes his research endeavors in the field of petroleum and natural gas in China over the past decades. Furthermore, it analyzes the theoretical and practical breakthroughs achieved in Chinas petroleum exploration efforts.
