Rapid development has been made in the exploation and utilization of nonmetallic minerals in recent years. The geology of nonmetallic deposits is becoming more and more important among the disciplines of earth science. This paper generalizes the present state of the study of nonmetallic deposits and discusses some problems and trends of the study of the geology of nonmetallic deposits. From an analysis of the present social background coupled with the history of the study of nonmetallic mineral deposits it may be predicted that the study of nonmetallic mineral deposits will be carried out more intensively and extensively at the end of this century and at the beginning of the next century, and there will be wide space to be opened up in respect to studies of metal-logeny, ore technology and development of uses of mineral materials, mineral exploration techniques and economic evaluation as well as new achievements and new techniques of related disciplines introduced for the study of nonmetallic mineral deposits. More intensive work remains to be done.
