Three facies models are proposed to c!lassify the known variations in fan delta depomts in oil— bearing lacustrine basins. These include models for transgressive, regressive, and Gilbert-type fan deltas.Transgressive fan deltas generally Occur in the stage of transgression. They often have bet— ter developed fining-upward sequences and can be dividi'ed into three major zones:proximal fan, mj'dfan, and distal fan.Regressive fan dekas generally develop in the stage of regression. These fan dekas often have well developed coarsening-upward sequences and are divisible into three ma- jor geomorphic zones:fan delta plain, fan delta front, and prodelta. The ideal Gilbert—type fan deka consists of topset, foreset, and bottomset beds. The overall coarsening-upward sequence may always be well developed. The principal characteristic that differentiates Gilbert—type fan deltas from the other models is the presence of hrge-scale graveHy foreset beds in the:shallow subaque-ouS Zone.
