Based on the work of predecessors，large amounts of field work and indoor research were done by the author．Besides，he also studied the distribution features of the fault zone，biogeog— raphy，sequence stratigraphy and regional tectonic setting of the area．On that basis he demon— strates that the Jinping area might be a separate small terrane between the Yangtze platform and the southern paleocontinent in the Devonian，thus providing a foundation for a further study of the Paleo—Tethys orogenic belt and the boundary between the southern and northern paleoconti— nents．
