Abstract:This article summarizes the experiences of petroleum resource evaluation in China and the former Soviet Union and proposes five subsystems based on evaluat ion objectives and parameters. These five subsystems form a complete evaluation system that meet different demands in resource assessment. Evaluation of petroleum resources based on one single method has its limitat ion. The genetic method, statistical model and expert system have been integrate d to provide a better performance and for various in the proposed method. Th e fundamental procedures of these five subsystems are about the same: selectio n of an evaluation region, determination of the boundary of the region, establish ment of a theoretical model, selection of a standard region and using the data in this region to calibrate the theoretical model and turning it into a practica l working model, and then calculating the quality of resource and comparing the evaluation results. Data base, three dimensional modeling and computer and math ematical methods and computer graphics are the essentials in this system of pet roleum resource evaluation.
