The study on minerogenic series is an important field of up-to-date regional metallogeny. Important progress has been made in the study on the minerogenic series of both metallic and nonmetallic deposits since the concept of minerogenic series was advanced by Cheng Yuqi et al. at the end of the 1970s. In this paper a comparison is made between the minerogenic series of metallic deposits with that of nonmetallic deposits in respect to the concepts, grading of terms, contents of study and names of minerogenic series. Besides, the paper also discusses the present state and existing problems in the study of this subject. For a further study of minerogenic series , the authors hold that the concept of minerogenic series should reach a common understanding point, that the grading of the terms of the minerogenic series should be based on unifying criteria and that the unity and differences between metallic deposits and nonmetallic deposits should also be taken into consideration.
