Cenozoic alkali basalts in Penglai, Shandong Province were formed by th e upwelli ng mantle materials.The pyroxene and pyrope in the rock are lowgrade gemstones .They are similar to the basanite in Changle, Shandong Province where sapphire o ccurs.Therefore,Penglai could be another target area for gemstones.
